At Savigny-lès-Beaune, three perennial water sources would spring out of a limestone rock situated on this lieu-dit that the locals call “Les Godiaux”. In 1858, the water was canalised enabling it to supply the fountain situated on the church square at Aloxe-Corton. Indeed, this village had had important water supply problems until the 1950s. On the front page of the Plan of the first canalisation, this pipe is called “l’égout d’eau” (the water sewer). Couldn’t this also be the meaning of the lieu-dit name? The limestone rock may have been used as a sewer allowing the underground waters to flow. The word Egout – from Latin GUTTA “drop of a liquid” – initially means “liquid that drips, rain waters flowing”. In the case here it signifies the flowing of springs.

Chardonnay vines grown on 161-49 rootstock. The vines are quite young.
Marly white soil from the Jurassic period. These relatively infertile grounds are often preferred for white wines as reds here tend to lack body on this kind of soil.
According to the vintage conditions.
This perfectly south-facing plot benefits from ideal sun exposure. It is at an altitude of around 280 m on a slope of the hill separating Pernand-Vergelesses and Savigny-lès-Beaune.
