Etymology

At Savigny-lès-Beaune, this large plot borders the road to Beaune, not very far from the river Rhoin and below Les Hauts Marconnets and Bas Marconnets where a spring flows abundantly. Their soil is humid and marshy. Its name is derived from old French Pol (pond or mire).

The vineyard plot(s)

Massal selection of Pinot Noir grafted onto 161-49 rootstocks. Reasonably aged vines at 45 years old on average.

The soil and subsoil

Limestone scree and silt with little clay on a subsoil of gravel and sand. This well-drained and warm ground ripens the grapes remarkably quickly and this plot is always one of the first to be harvested at the Domaine.
