Etymology
At Ladoix-Serrigny, the climats Basses Mourottes and Hautes Mourottes are situated above the Carrières, right at the top of the slope. Mourotte is a diminutive of Mur (wall), and includes the Burgundian suffix “-ottes” , but these are not truly man-made walls but in fact the faces of ancient quarries which are wall-like as they are vertical. These quarries have been filled in to become vineyards.

The vineyard plot(s)
Vines about 45 years old.
The soil and subsoil
The ground is brown limestone over a Bathonian era subsoil. This very well-drained, warm but infertile land stresses the vine in its growth and during the ripening of the grapes. This, along with the particular microclimate, makes the wine Corton “Les Hautes Mourottes” relatively austere and firm in its youth.
The vinification
According to the vintage conditions.
The exposition
At about 360 metres the Corton “Hautes Mourottes” vineyard is the highest placed Grand Cru on the Corton hill. It faces East and so is relatively cool with big varations in temperature.
