Etymology
At Ladoix-Serrigny, the climats Basses Mourottes and Hautes Mourottes are situated above the Carrières, right at the top of the slope. Mourotte is a diminutive of Mur (wall), and includes the Burgundian suffix “-ottes” , but these are not truly man-made walls but in fact the faces of ancient quarries which are wall-like as they are vertical. These quarries have been filled in to become vineyards.
