Saint-Vincent Tournante

The Saint-Vincent Tournante: its origin

The Saint-Vincent Tournante was created in 1938 by the Confrérie des Chevaliers du Tastevin. It groups together the 85 mutual aid societies of Burgundy. These societies, born in the Middle Ages, are associations of religious origin of mutual aid between winegrowers placed under the protection of the Saint Patron of winegrowers: Saint-Vincent.

The Saint-Vincent Tournante: the festival

The Saint-Vincent Tournante takes place on the last weekend of January. Each village on the coast takes care of the organisation of this event, which is open to the public, in turn. The village in question is decorated by its inhabitants, including paper flowers, signs and playlets with characters.

On the morning of the first day, the “mutual aid societies” of Burgundy gather to participate in the parade-procession with the banners of the 85 societies, the costumes of the Confréries and the statues of the saints. This is followed by a ceremony at the Monument aux Morts, a religious service in the village church, and finally enthronements by the confraternities.

But it is above all the tasting of the vintage or vintages of the Saint-Vincent Tournante that attracts the crowds at various points in the village concerned.
